HUMANS, NATURE AND CULTURE

The Georgetown Art Center is pleased to present “Recent Paintings,” an exhibition of work by Jazz-minh Moore. Moore paints portraits with an eclectic palette: transferred text, poured resin, graphite and charred edges over birch panel. Although her paintings have a minimalist quality they certainly do not lack depth. Moore's work is deeply rooted in the personal and general interpretations of the natural world, culture and how human beings interact within a given space.

Jazz-mihn Moore graduated magna cum laude at Cornish College of the arts and received her
M.F.A at California State University. She currently assists in outreach with youth as a life drawing teacher and finds herself immersed within various community arts projects. With solo and group exhibitions internationally, Moore vastly communicates the importance of art making in and out of the studio: "Being an artist to me means being committed to art, which goes beyond the paintings I make in my studio. Art is a way of life and a belief system. If I can help other people create, through teaching or curating, this is part of it. The simple idea - I'm going to spend my time creating something instead of consuming something - is art.

Non-toxic printmaking workshops for
Teens ages 13-18

Workshop goals
This beginner’s class in non-toxic printmaking with a focus on creative expression and identity. A brief overview of the history of print will set teens up for an enjoyable and fun experimentation process. Each student will help direct their own final project and create unique and lovely art pieces which express their own voice and identity. Introductions to traditional and modern techniques will broaden the language of expression each student can achieve. Students will create a finished project that will be showcased at their own artists reception .

Pricing – Early bird payment if received by Nov 27th is $80 inc. materials fee .
Price is $100 thereafter
Scholarships - three full Scholarships will be available for low–income or needy families

Printmakers wanted

The Center is working on a lovely Print Arts Studio

We will be accepting interested printmakers into a small collective style studio starting at the end of May. Fee's will be from 60$ to $120 a month depending on frequency of use. We are a non-toxic studio so some forms of printing will not work in this space. We clean with all safe cleaners such as soy solve and canola oil. Please call (206)767-8067 for more details.

Level: some drawing skills and commitment

Tenaya received a B.F.A in painting and drawing at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. After working several years as a graphic designer, he began his classical studies at the Jeff Watts Atelier in Encinitas, CA. He then moved to Seattle where he completed four years of full time study at the Juliette Aristides Classical Atelier at the Gage Academy in Seattle. He is the recipient of the Stanley R. Wright Foundation award (2004) and the Robert DeZordo Estate award (2005). Tenaya has taught classes at Gage Academy of Art and Pratt Fine arts Center, and is currently represented by Elka Rouskov Gallery in Kirkland, Wa. Tenaya was recently featured in Southwest Art's 21 under 31 painters with a bright future! (pg 136).

This program teaches drawing and painting in the classical tradition. The curriculum and the teaching techniques are modeled on those of the Atelier programs. This successful method teaches students to thoroughly understand, develop, and implement the skills needed for representational drawing and painting.
Each student is guided through each assignment and the teaching environment is supportive and respectful, by both instructors and peers.

Meets every Sunday from 1-4 pm

Saints and Sinners drawing / painting session is an uninstructed Art session open to all levels.

We work from live models in costumes and also do the figure in a scene(ie props). Some models are dressed as mythological / spiritual beings, some as troubled historical figures. Examples of past subjects are St. Gerome, Pan , Kali , Virgin Mary, Moulin rouge dancers and the like. If you are interested please feel free to drop in for one of our fun sessions.
Fee scale - Drop in price $12 one time
Buy a frequent flyer option - 4 sessions for $40
bring your own supplies and a portable easel if you have one, we have limited numbers of easels

Sessions are a long pose (two weeks costume/two weeks figure) . We serve light snacks and coffee for all participants
